LOS RAMOS, MEXICO (CNN) - An entire police force resigned from a newly opened police station in Mexico.

Police offers in the small town in the state of Nuevo Leon said they're just too scared to show up for work. Their fears were confirmed Monday, when the station was seriously damaged by a hail of bullets – a message from drug cartels.

Following the incident, the entire 14-man force quit.

The new station opened Friday in Los Ramos, Mexico, but so far it hasn't been used. It's even complete with brand new police cars, none of which have been driven.

Schools and government offices remain closed as well, and people are leaving the town.
