A ten-year-old boy has been arrested after telling a neighbour that he had shot and killed his mother.
Deborah McVay, 46, was found dead from a single gunshot wound to the head on Sunday night in Big Prairie, midway between Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio.
According to local police, paramedics found Miss McVay lying facedown on her living room floor. She was pronounced dead at the scene. It is believed the bullet was fired from a .22 calibre rifle.

Authorities went to the home after a neighbour called a sheriff's dispatcher to say Miss McVay's son had approached her and said he had just shot his mother.
Miss McVay's body was transported to the Stark County Coroner's office for an autopsy. Miss McVay's 15-year-old daughter, who was at home at the time of the shooting, is now staying with relatives. It is unclear whether she witnessed the shooting.
The ten-year-old son is being held in Richland County Juvenile Detention and was due to appear in court later this afternoon.
Authorities said the boy, who has not been named because of his age, had a history of behavioural problems.
When he was six years old, he was involved in a dispute with his school bus driver and year later removed from school for attacking the principal.
Holmes County Sheriff Tim Zimmerly reports that a 10-year-old boy is in Juvenile Custody after allegedly killing his 46-year-old mother with a .22-caliber rifle at around 6 p.m. Sunday.
Deborah L. McVay, 13194 Township Road 511, Big Prairie, was pronounced dead at the scene by responding EMS personnel.
Holmes County Central Dispatch received the first call at 6:03 p.m. from a Township Road 511 neighbor stating that the victim’s son had just come to their house and said he needed the squad and the police and that he had just shot his mom.
Responding deputies and EMS personnel from Western Holmes Fire District Lakeville and Nashville stations found the victim laying face down on the floor in the living area in the residence.
Investigation at the scene by sheriff’s detectives indicates that the victim was apparently killed by a single gunshot wound to the head. The body has been transported to Stark County Coroner’s Office for autopsy.
The 10-year-old boy was taken into custody by deputies and then transported to Richland County Juvenile Detention. He is scheduled to appear in Holmes County Juvenile Court sometime today. A 15-year-old daughter, also of the residence, has been placed with relatives for the time being.
Investigation by detectives is ongoing and circumstances into what may have caused the shooting are still unclear.
