CONYERS — A film crew working on the fifth installment of “The Fast and The Furious” movie franchise has set up operations in a Conyers warehouse as they film scenes of the action-adventure movie across the metro Atlanta area.

City of Conyers spokeswoman Jennifer Edwards confirmed that a film crew had rented out a warehouse in the city this week and her office assisted by preparing about 200 informational packets about the community and the surrounding area.

The movie, also known as “Fast 5,” reunites several cast members from the original film. Vin Diesel, who portrays Dominic Toretto, an auto mechanic and elite street racer from the United States, is returning to the film series. He starred in the first movie, “The Fast and The Furious” in 2001 and the previous two films in the series “Tokyo Drift” (2006) and last year’s “Fast and The Furious.”

Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster and other actors from the first film are returning for “Fast 5.” Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Atlanta-based musician Ludacris are also starring in the film.

Justin Lin, who directed the last two installments, returns to direct the current production.

However, it’s unknown if locals will be able to spot Diesel or any of his co-stars in Olde Town Conyers anytime soon or how long the film crew will stay in town.

Carol McConnaughey, a publicist for the film’s production, said in an e-mail response to questions she did not have complete details of the local filming schedule and that the movie crew was in the process of finishing five weeks of filming in Puerto Rico. Scenes for “Fast 5” will be filmed in and around Atlanta through the end of October.

The film is scheduled to be released in theaters in June 2011.
