Russell still backs Obama 100%.The enthusiam in Bridgeport, CT on Saturday where 10,000 came out to show their support for President Obama and the Democratic party, was at a fever pitch. Emceed by the "Godfather of Hip-Hop," Russell Simmons, the rally was a statement that the Democrats are showing up in droves during the final days before Tuesday's election.
"We're faced," said hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons, who emceed Obama's appearance Saturday, "with a moment where we have to live up to our own promise. It takes hard work, resilience and faith. You're all here because you still believe in the dream … We have to keep the team in office so we can execute our promises."
Russell and President Obama brought their politics of hope to Connecticut's statewide elections in an effort to encourage more people to go to the polls on Tuesday.
Obama promised that if voters are out there knocking on doors, making phone calls, sparking conversations about politics and if all the young people who came to vote in 2008, came out again to vote, that Democrats will do more than just win an election.
"We are going to restore this economy . We are going to rebuilt our middle class. We can going to deliver the American Dream to the next generation and the generation after that and the generation after that, all the way to the distant future," Obama declared.
Russell spoke prior to Obama and was also joined by gubernatorial candidate Dan Mallow; Attorney General Richard Blumenthal; Rep. Jim Himes; and Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch.
